Psalm 118:5 “Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free.”
Her hair had finally grown out, several months earlier she had cut it to make some extra money. She sat before me on a hot and sunny morning on visitor’s day at the jail. The same year we moved to Peru, she was arrested and placed in prison. Many times throughout the years, she poured out her tears to me feeling helpless as to how she could mother her children year after year in jail. We have encouraged her with the Gospel time after time often wondering how long it would be before we would see true spiritual growth in her.
And then it happened. It was almost as if time stood still as I tried to recognize the lady sitting on the stool before me. She said, “I WAS a bad mother.” I responded, “Do you realize what you just said?” You said you WERE a bad mother, not I AM a bad mother. Many past conversations stemmed around God’s forgiveness; asking forgiveness, receiving forgiveness, and forgiving others. I wanted to shout for joy because this momma, with her long flowing hair, on a hot and sunny morning in the jail was a testimony of how in her distress she called on the Lord, and He answered her and SET HER FREE!
